We’ve waited forever. Now, with less than 24 hours to go, MMS will finally be coming to the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Don’t expect to wake up tomorrow morning and start sending and receiving pictures though. AT&T will be staggering the activation throughout the day starting at 10:00 am Eastern. You’ll also have to update your iPhone via iTunes with AT&T’s updated carrier file.
According to macrumors.com, AT&T might be more than a little nervous about the rollout:
“early testing has been a little rocky, with AT&T seeing a fairly significant test outage yesterday that has them rushing to beef up their MMSC messaging servers. Estimates among those working on the project are that traffic on AT&T’s wireless network will be about 40% higher all day on Friday as iPhone users fire pictures and video at one another.â€
Jailbreakers, go forth and prosper. Keep an eye out here for a forthcoming howto video.
From the dev team:
PwnageTool 3.1 for Mac OS X – this application supports the iPhone 1st Generation (2G), the iPhone 3G and the iPod touch 1G. NB: THIS DOES NOT SUPPORT THE 3GS OR 2G/3G IPOD TOUCH. redsn0w for Mac OS X and Windows will follow sometime in the near future, please don’t bug us about it – we’ll release when we have something ready.
We know it’s coming, but the question remains.. “when?”
Well, it may be pretty soon. TomTom’s iPhone app (iTunes link) by itself is without a doubt, simply awesome. The mount just takes it one step further. It’s packed with goodies including the ability to charge your iPhone, Bluetooth for hands-free calling, and it’s own SiRFstar GPS chipset for better accuracy as compared to the app by itself. Want more? I thought so. Here is a link to the FCC’s site to keep you quite busy including more photos, test reports, and even the device’s manual.
Here’s a great video I found on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS running 3.0.1. Don’t have an iPhone yet? You can get one free by clicking here.
